The Trump administration may soon expand the criteria used to determine whether immigrants seeking permanent residency status are at risk of becoming a “burden to American taxpayers.” News of the proposed changes to the “public charge” test have spread through immigrant communities around the country, including in East Palo Alto.
Edith Bracho-Sanchez, MD is a pediatrician and the 2018-2019 Stanford Global Health and Media Fellow. Edith is from Caracas, Venezuela and came to the United States at age 15. She obtained her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed her residency training in pediatrics at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Edith has worked at a freelancer for ABC News and founded a health podcast for Latino parents that has received several child advocacy awards. She hopes to report on issues of global health significance- with a focus on child health- in addition to practicing as a primary care pediatrician in underserved communities.
