The towering redwoods of Northern California are famous for their massive size and immense age. When Google proposed to remove over one hundred of these trees from Shoreline Boulevard in Mountain View, the response was less than joyous from Mountain View residents. But when the City Council decided to go ahead with the removal, there was little public outcry.
A combination of pro-cycling-to-work advocates, the trees’ poor health and plans to replace the redwoods with a multitude of eco-friendly trees helped make the decision more palatable.
