The Wag Hotel in Redwood City has become a landmark off Highway 101. With massive dog murals on the sides of its walls, commuters throughout the Bay Area stare, as they drive down an otherwise mundane stretch of road – a fact that Redwood City couldn’t help but recognize.
Jeffrey Gee, mayor of Redwood City, recently awarded Wag Hotel a Beautification Award for structural remodel and design, commending the business for improving the city’s landscape.
The Redwood City location is the newest in a growing franchise of Wag Hotels, which provide luxury accommodations for cats and dogs. In addition to the San Francisco and Sacramento locations, the Redwood City site opened less than one year ago.
The new hotel, much like its counterparts, features “kitty condos” for cats and three different types of rooms for dogs: private rooms, deluxe suites and ultra suites. The deluxe and ultra suites feature flat screen televisions complete with Netflix, along with 24/7 surveillance video that owners can access at any time. The ultra suite even allows owners to Skype with their dog.
In addition to its boarding options, Wag Hotel also offers social activities for dogs, including All Day Play, a daycare that allows dogs to play with other canines. The hotel features seasonal events as well, such as its Haunted Howl-O-Ween party to benefit Furry Friends Rescue and its upcoming 12 Days of Play, a winter special offering different activities for dogs each day Dec. 1 to 16.
Despite their lavish rooms and services, clients insist that the staff of the Wag Hotel in Redwood City is what makes it stand apart.
“I just love the staff,” said Donna King, a frequent client. “They’re always so upbeat, they’re so wonderful … and they know [my dog]. Even when we haven’t been here in a while, they greet him.”
And according to employee Brandon Moreno, the feeling is mutual.
“I enjoy…interacting with the pups,” Moreno said. “Being able to build relationships with them, and in a way … caring for them as if they were my own. It’s a blessing to be a part of this upcoming, soon to be franchise.”
