Will governor Ralph Northam’s proclamation for reconciliation be a flop?

Earlier this year, Virginia governor, Ralph S. Northam released a proclamation declaring 2019 to be the Year of Reconciliation and Civility in Virginia. But is Northam the right person to champion this motion for healing? Shortly after the proclamation, a racist photograph was discovered in Northam’s 1984 medical school yearbook. He is depicted as either a Klansman or in Blackface, but the governor has yet to identify which nor confirm his involvement.

Protesters and artists demand Marin Theatre Company action after production of ‘Thomas and Sally’

A group led by black women artists in the Bay Area has written an open letter of complaint about the way the Marin Theatre Company handled protests and concerns over its fall production of “Thomas and Sally,” which closed on Oct. 29.  More than 1,600 black female and male artists have signed the letter, mainly from the Bay Area, but also from New York and the greater Los Angeles Area. “As black artists, and as black women, we are all too familiar with our histories and our narratives being imagined through the gaze of white supremacist patriarchy,” said the women in a statement. “We take issue with producing organizations whose choices…
