Donald Trump’s genius lies in his unrivaled ability to make those around him look better than we know they are. We have seen it with Jeff Sessions, who earned our sympathy after his long run in the doghouse, though we knew that his views on immigration, criminal justice, LGBTQ issues and marijuana were far out of step. We saw it with George Bush, who compared to Trump seems like a statesman and model of articulateness. And Mitt Romney, who’s views on the 47% seem so moderate compared to what currently passes as policy. Now we see it with John Bolton, a neocon, hardliner and the ultimate hawk.
