Hip hop artists Dreezy, 2Chainz bring energy to Blackfest

Each year, the Stanford Black Family Gathering Committee brings together an exciting lineup of musicians for Blackfest. In some previous years, T-Pain, Metro Boomin, and Ty Dolla Sign performed. This year, 2 Chainz and Dreezy headlined Blackfest. 2 Chainz played many of his songs that have become part of popular culture. Dreezy wowed the crowd showing she is up for becoming a big name in hip hop.

Before 2 Chainz and Dreezy, there were several student openers who show there is a lot of musical talent on campus. The openers were Melinda Hernandez ‘21, VII (Gabriel Townsell ’20), Alexa Luckey ’21, and a trio of Brandon Hightower ’15, Wesley Mitchell ’15 and Bernard Wang M.A. ’20. After the openers, DJ Amen warmed up the crowd for the headliners. The music was complemented by the art, jewelry and clothing that was sold around the field.

The event is a gathering for the whole Bay Area community. Levin Field was packed with people enjoying the festivities and celebrating the start of the summer season.
