Filoli Historic House and Gardens has been the site of matrimony for top Facebook executives, featured in SNL and Dynasty, and functioned as a neutral diplomatic setting for the Biden-Xi summit. This year, it celebrates its 50th year open to the public.
Nestled in the valley that is home to today’s titans of industry lies a relic of Gold Rush riches in the form of a gilded estate and esteemed flower garden. Filoli is located just 30 minutes from the headquarters of Google, Apple, and Meta – an oasis of nature in the midst of a tech-driven mecca.
“It’s been on the lists – hidden gems of the Peninsula. Well, we don’t want to be hidden.” Willa Brock, Associate Director of Interpretation, told the Peninsula Press.
Over the last decade, visitation has quadrupled. The organization attributes this growth to their commitment to welcome everyone to their grounds. Filoli has spent the past 50 years digging deeper than its roots of wealthy history to tell the untold stories of the staff.
Today, the staff of Filoli reflects on the history of the estate, the recent rise in attendance, and their vision for the next 50 years at Filoli.
