The new pedestrian bridge is being built parallel to the University Avenue overpass, near the Four Seasons Hotel in Silicon Valley at East Palo Alto. The bridge was about 80% completed as of Oct. 10, 2024, and is expected to open in April 2025. (Itzel Luna/Peninsula Press)

Workers first broke ground on a pedestrian bridge in East Palo Alto in October 2023 that is meant to link the east and west sides of the city. The opening date for the bridge — which will run parallel to the U.S. Highway 101 overpass — has been delayed until at least April 2025. The delay was primarily caused by construction and design issues as well as expected rain in the coming months, project managers said.
