San Jose-based solar power company SunPower has begun construction on one of its larger scale projects—California Valley Solar Ranch—in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The solar ranch will cover roughly 2,000 acres, with a capacity of 250 megawatts. In contrast, the largest completed solar ranch in the state is equipped for only 45 megawatts. In the next year, over 15 solar projects over 25 megawatts are scheduled for construction in California.

In this video, Julie Blunden, executive vice president for SunPower, discusses solar power: how it works, where it goes and who it helps.
