Hours after Apple’s Wednesday afternoon announcement that former CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs had died, memorials began to spring up at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Apple stores around the Bay Area and near his home in Palo Alto.

Mourners brought flowers and lit candles in memory of Jobs, 56, who died after a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Small groups gathered on Waverley Street, near his home, holding iPads and iPhones. Others created a small shrine on the sidewalk with gifts and mementos — including an apple with a bite out of it to resemble the logo Jobs made famous.
